“I want to and am ready to manage a bigger team because I am good at managing and motivating people, I am good at galvanising a team around a common goal, I enjoy doing it, and my track record speaks of this talent of mine loud and clear,” said Ece in her performance review.
“I’d like to be promoted to a position one level up,” said Eliana in hers.
Who do you think has gotten promoted?
From my experience of coaching hundreds of women since 2012, I have observed that most professional women make some of the following mistakes:
- They do not have a clear goal or ambition. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you’ve got to have a clear career vision and know what you want to do next and where.
- They do not link their goal to their value proposition (“why me?”) and they do not articulate the value they bring to the table.
- They do not ask for what they want.
Does this ring a bell?
Do you know how to ask for it? And how to position yourself for high visibility and success?
Last week’s offer of laser coaching was a big hit and some of you have asked me for an extension. You win!
*By the way, I’ll be talking about the 5 most common mistakes women make when it comes to career advancement and will share the 3 key strategies for building a thriving career in my forthcoming workshop for professional women on 13th of October.
